Manaakitanga
Extending Care, Respect & Hospitality
We are committed to providing exceptional customer service and ensuring everyone has an unforgettable experience.
At Mercury Bay Discoveries, Manaakitanga—the deep-rooted Māori value of hospitality, kindness, and the responsibility to care for others—guides everything we do. When you step aboard our vessel, you’re not just a customer but an honoured guest, as we share the natural treasures and stories of Mercury Bay while ensuring your comfort, safety, and enjoyment are our highest priorities.

- Our spacious stable boat has both indoor seating for full protection from the sun, wind, and rain, as well as outdoor seating to enjoy beautiful weather
- Guests can move around and enjoy the sights from many areas of our vessel
- For guest’s comfort, we have a toilet onboard, warm shower for after swimming/snorkelling, and hot/cold refreshments available.
Kaitiakitanga
Guardianship of Nature
As kaitiaki (guardians) of Te Whanganui-o-Hei Marine Reserve and the Coromandel Peninsula coastline, we actively partner with the Department of Conservation to protect these pristine waters.
Our marine mammal permit ensures all wildlife encounters are respectful and sustainable. Through educational programs and community partnerships, we share our passion for marine conservation and help ensure these treasures endure for future generations. We’re proud to support local conservation initiatives that safeguard our unique marine environment.
How do we do this?
- We share mammal sightings with DOC to help them track orca, dolphins, and whales in our area
- We use compostable, reusable, or recyclable products
- We guide our guests in respectful wildlife observation, maintaining a mindful distance while snorkelling to ensure wildlife remains undisturbed in their natural habitat.
